Description: Smoked Dunkelweizen is an unfiltered dark wheat beer with a smoky twist. This beer is a mutant, using 11 different malts to provide it's dark brown color, 3 hop varieties, German, Czech and American for a bittering balance and 2 different yeast strains for added complexity. The yeasts involved are a German Ale yeast from our friends at Red Lodge Ales and our house American Ale yeast. As a result, the brew has a very complex flavor and aroma profile melding the spicy, chocolaty malt sweetness with the zesty and fruity yeast compounds. The kicker here is the addition of 2 different smoked malts. We wanted to achieve a phenol profile similar to the German style but without using the typical yeast. The smoke comes through in aroma and flavor; it’s subtle but noticeable and provides a rich uniqueness to this very smooth and easy to drink Dunkelweizen.
