Description: Retribution Black Rye IPA is a special collaboration brew with Spike Buckowski from Terrapin Beer Company. Spike came to Cork in February to brew beer. En route to Mitchelstown, we took a detour to a little spot that he shares a name with, Spike Island. The reason was obvious, but the reaction less so. At one stage, Spike Island was a holding place for convicts awaiting transportation to Australia. It was also used as a staging post for the British on their way to put an end to what they called the American Revolution – what Spike calls the American War of Independence. Inspired by Spike Island, we brewed something black, bitter and angry. It has rye, because Spike insists that every beer should have rye. It has patriotic hops like Cascade, Citra and Amarillo. We then dry hopped it until the hops wouldn’t fit in the fermenter anymore. Here’s to Retribution.
