Description: As we’ve often said in reference to the Brewer’s Reserve series “No style guidelines, no compromise!” – Bald Eagle is just that. The inspiration for this extravagant ale was two-fold - big bold American IPA’s, and the New Zealand winter. While we wanted to pay homage to the American hop heavy brews of the West Coast, the winter months demanded the comfort of malt. We feel we’ve achieved this delicate balancing act with this rich, complex IPA. A classic combination of pale ale malts was blended with a generous percentage of crystal malt to deliver a full juicy mouth-feel. Rather than being a mere vehicle for hops, hops and more hops, the malt body of Bald Eagle adds a distinct element to co-star with the all-important US hops. One of the joys of the Brewer’s Reserve series is that there are few commercial compromises made. Bald Eagle is a great example of this, a long boil, an extravagant hop load in the kettle and yet more precious American hops sacrificing their oily goodness during a lengthy dry-hopping period. The result is a complex ale that references the US classics without slavishly replicating them thus delivering a satisfying blend of malt sweetness and weight, balanced by oily, resiny American bitterness and hop flavour. Weighing in at a solid 7%, this moreish ale is guaranteed to take you to the American West Coast whilst keeping in tone with the season.
