Description: We reached deep into the archives, dusted off our recipe book and rediscovered this gem! We added some new dimension to this often-overlook variety of beer and are dedicating it to our friends at the Arizona Audubon Society to support their Tapping Into Conservation program to call attention to the sandhill crane. The Black IPA style is a lot like a robust porter but without the dark roasted astringency of the high-kilned malts – plus there’s a big boost of American hops. This Black IPA has all of the characteristics of an American IPA, but is dark and rich in color from Midnight Wheat, Carafa and Carabrown malts. We used six different varieties of hops at seven different intervals. (Sound familiar, Hop Knot IPA?) The ABV is sitting as a smooth 7%, and the IBUs are 35 to create a harmonious balance of malt and hops.
