Description: Stingo is old English slang for a strong ale, the title of a 17th century bar song subtitled Oil of Barley, and the name of a famous public house in Yorkshire, England. This English Strong Ale employs a variety of English malts and a modest addition of kettle (cane) sugar, as is the common practice in England. Medium bodied, with a honeyish, slightly toasty malt character, this beer falls somewhere in between our ESB and our Old Backus Barleywine both in strength and flavor. Deep copper hued and hopped with Vanguard and East Kent Golding hops, this Stingo is balanced and approachable despite its heft. The mildly acidic finish comes at the hands of micro-flora from the barrel and is a common trait in English Old Ales such as this one.
