This version of the beer is exclusively brewed in the UK for the J D Wetherspoons Real Ale Festival. Doug Odell from Odell Brewing Company, Fort Collins near Denver in Colorado, joined with Ian Kennedy and the brewing team here at Slateford Road to brew Odell 90 Shilling, the flagship ale of the American craft brewery. The beer is limited edition for the JD Wetherspoon beer festival and will be available for the next two weeks. It is very much a homecoming for this style of beer. Doug’s own recipe is inspired from the Shilling or Scotch Ale beer from Scotland, when beers were classified by the shilling price per hogshead. These shilling classifications were later simplified to names when the ranges became more defined, 60 Shilling was Light ale, 70/- Heavy, 80/- Export and 90/- Strong or Scotch Ale.
