Description: ‘Old’ in German is ‘alt’, and within the German ‘bier’ (beer) context, the Düsseldorfer ‘Altbier’ is a top fermented ale that undergoes a longer cold maturation in the traditional lager style. We zoned in on this style and then took a step to left and embraced the ‘Sticke Altbier’. With a heftier hop and malt profile, the ‘Sticke Altbier’ style is bold and mysterious. Never brewed the same way twice. Full of toffee and fudge aromas, with some grassy hops peeking through, this beer is assertively bitter to start. It then gives way to a full mouthfeel of sweet malts, reminiscent of Oma’s dense fruit cake. Prost! Malt: Pale malt, Munich, Carared, Caramunich, Carafa Wheat Hops: Magnum (bittering), Perle and Crystal (late kettle) Saaz and Spalt (whirlpool)
