Description: In creating this beer, the brewing team restricted itself to using only a single malt and a single hop (SMaSH = Single Malt and Single Hop) to highlight the brewing qualities of each ingredient. This SMaSH beer combines Maris Otter Malt and Equinox hops. The Malt: Maris Otter is an English Winter Barley variety prized by brewers for its good brewing characteristics and good malty flavors, which are described as biscuity, and the low protein levels of the malt often leads the yeast to create subtle fruity and sometimes slightly buttery flavors. The Hops: Equinox is a new hop varietal grown in the Pacific NW, chiefly Washington State. It’s a dual purpose hop providing both a sturdy bitterness and interesting aromatic and flavor characteristics. Fruity, herbal, floral and especially a light peppery (fresh green peppers) standout.
