Description: Fresh Hop sour ale, released May 2017. For this hop harvest, we decided to experiment with a sour beer to see how it changes hop flavour. We brewed an IPA recipe similar to The Haze from last year, kettle-soured it to a pH of 3.5 (pretty tart, but not overtly sour), and then whirlpooled it with 40kg fresh Cascade hop flowers from Bushy Park, Tasmania. Two weeks later it was dry hopped with pellets from the same (2017) crop. The result is a zesty beer with big tropical/grapefruit aromatics leading to a tart, lemony palate, and a clean, refreshing finish. This beer had a pre-release at the Fresh Hop Festival in April 2017 under the name Pithy Banter, where it took out the Peoples' Choice from a field of 28 fresh hop beers.
