Description: Our Bière de Garde is brewed with Belgian and French ingredients and named for the French tripartite motto meaning: "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity/Brotherhood." Bière de Garde is a style that means "beer for keeping," and can be compared to a malty lager - think Doppelbock. While French Ale yeast is used for fermentation, it is fermented cool to limit ester production. This style is traditionally clean and malty, but grain usage and color are very much up for interpretation. Ours was brewed with rye, wheat, and Belgian pilsner malt to help embody the essence of this old European style. Rich notes of caramel and bread mingle with a surprising dryness. With this beer our brewers salute our French-speaking allies and honor the recent losses suffered in France and Belgium at the hands of those who attempt to thwart the three pillars of the French motto.
