Description: In the autumn of ’93, the first Mad Mex opened its doors in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. On display was the founders’ collection of Mexican and South American folk art hung on reclaimed barnwood walls, simple foods made from scratch, pints of microbrews sweating along the bar, and a genuine desire to show their guests a good time. In the two decades and ten Mexes since, the little art collection has exploded into a roving gallery of masks and papier mâché skulls that would make any macabre hoarder proud. The company has expanded the menus and honed the execution, making sure that every burrito, quesadilla and margarita that goes out is the best one yet, while striving to maintain that raucous, funky party started in Oakland twenty years back. To mark the milestone, the restaurant has teamed up with longtime friends Fat Head’s Brewery in Cleveland, OH to create a the perfect Mad Mex IPA. Head Brewmaster Matt Cole spent his youth downwind of Mad Mex Oakland, further qualifying him to bring Dos Décadas IPA into the world. Brewed with the elusive Mosaic hop, Dos Décadas bubbles with a passion fruity backbone, piney citrus notes, and “a reckless abuse of hops”, as the brewers at Fat Head’s have described it. Clocking in at 7.5% ABV and 80 IBUs, this very limited draft will be available at all Mad Mex locations starting the second week of October, and will likely be gone before the end of the month.
