Description: This dark lager marries elements of a porter (roast, dark malt character) and a pils (noble-hopped lager character). Pilsner malt provides the backbone, while Aromatic, Munich, and Melanoidin Malt provide some deep malty characters to compliment the roasted coffee flavors contributed by Chocolate Rye malt. Vanguard hops provide bitterness, while Czech Saaz hops provide the spicy character of “noble” hops. Schwarzbiers are very dark brown to black German lagers. This interpretation is slightly more bitter than your average Schwarzbier and slightly more roasty. The name comes from the classic Mel Brooks’ movie spoofing Star Wars, Spaceballs, where The Force becomes The Schwartz.
