Description: A Latzenbier is a stronger and darker version of a Dusseldorf altbier that was aged in oak barrels. Intended for upper echelons of society, the beer was stored high up on "Latten" or "Latzen" (wooden slats) out of sight of the impecunious commoners. It is a full-bodied beer with a nutty and malty undertone and a soft hop finish leaving a smooth and clean finish. The original recipes were barrel aged with a noted alcohol finish. Keeping with this tradition, The Wooden Path is brewed at a higher alcohol level than traditional altbiers and aged in Breckenridge bourbon barrels to contribute the wood and alcohol notes. This limited release beer will become available to the public in small amounts including a bottle conditioned release after Rare Beer Festival IV.
