Description: Dedicated to those who serve others and sacrifice time away from home and family. During the 1980 Iranian hostage crisis, US Naval ships were deployed at sea for up to nine months, with only a few days in port. During these deployments, the legal consumption of alcohol by US sailors while underway aboard a US Naval vessel was authorized for the first time in decades. Crew members were allotted two cans of beer on each occasion, reestablishing the tradition of “Splicing the Mainbrace”, now called a “Steel Beach Picnic”.
