Description: Once upon a time, there was no king of ancient Phrygia, but an old ox-cart was knotted to a post in the capital city Gordium and it was prophesied that whoever could untie the impossible knot would become king. Many had tried and failed. When Alexander the Great arrived in 333 BC, he slashed it apart with his sword and claimed the kingdom. Preferring beer to sword-play, we raise a toast to those of you tangled in a seemingly impossible problem with the hope that maybe you will resort to intellect to solve rather than weapons, even if they are medieval swords. The Gordian Knot Bock (named by the Great Mike Sweeney) is at its roots a big Oktoberfest. It has rich dark fruit notes reminiscent, as Brendan puts it, "of cake". The Gordian Knot Bock has a depth of flavor achieved through the use of highly kilned malts. Darker Crystal malt are dominant on the nose of this beer. In my humble opinion, you can have your cake and drink it too. Not sweet like cake, but good like cake. Sturdy malt-sweetness with balanced hop bitterness. It's a warming beer for colder months but goes down easy. Caramelly and fruity aftertastes. Clear as mud, I hope so.
