Description: Our Dry Stout Lager. Roasty, toasty, and dry with a good malt backbone. Releases in March every year. In the beginning we never brewed a beer that really gave justice to the dark simplicity of a well made Stout. Conversely, in the mainstream of lager styles none of them share the guidelines for a beer that is dark, dry, and supremely roasty. Like a lot of our beers we have to interpret our more experimental beers with care as our house yeast will pick out every little nuance we add through our choices of malt and hops. The Volitionist is our journey into an untapped realm of styles, the Stout Lagers. There is: Dry Stout, Sweet, Stout, Oatmeal Stout, Foreign Extra Stout, American Stout, and Russian Imperial Stout...yet no Stout Lager. So we did it. We use a simple recipe meant to capture the essence of the roasted malts chosen coupled with hops that are known to do well in Ales and Lagers. There is a carefully measured balance of American and British Roasted Barleys, Flaked Barley, and Chocolate Malt to give Volitionist its distinct profile. We found that by letting it ferment to total fruition the dry-ness was a great way of showcasing the subtleties. The Volitionist shares all the similarities of a traditional American Stout and a Dry Stout but the accentuated subtleties within the roasty persona we've built in this beer, are wholly unique to it's concept. As an undefined style in which we chose to explore we can choose to go down this road of discovery.
